Welcome:

The name Keeping It Green Nursery was inspired by the idea to not only supply plant enthusiasts with garden worthy plants, but also to revitalize developed land.  The nursery is constantly researching underutilized or largely undiscovered plants to bring them into the garden setting.  Plants sold by the nursery are grown from seed, spores or are divisions of nursery stock.

Keeping it Green Nursery specializes in Hardy Orchids, Woodland Perennials, Hardy Ferns, Hard to find natives, Species Iris, Species Lilium, and distinctive foliage plants such as the Genus Podophyllum.  Some of the hardy orchids that are regularly available are Bletilla, Cypripedium, Calanthe, Dactylorhiza, and Epipactis.

Rare and unusual does not mean hard to grow, but rather difficult to propagate, or takes many years form seed, new to cultivation, not common in the wild, or simply passed over by those who don’t know.

My philosophy has developed from growing up with an intimate relationship of my surroundings.  Always hiking in the Pacific Northwest has been a great way to take a closer look at plants needs for cultivation.  I have a special interest in native plants and feel the need to supply gardeners with plants that can be found in a healthy ecosystem.  Today there is so much destruction of habitat it is good to put back some of what has been taken away.  There is no way to stop growth, and the best thing to do is to encourage people to plant, and to retain as much as they can of the existing plants, soil and decaying material.  Plants are living  organisms tat are constantly changing.  If you pay attention and are attuned to your garden the plants will tell you what they need.  It is good to understand the type of soil and relationship the plant has with water.  Plants have developed a certain way because of the environmental factors they have been exposed to over the years, and can have specific cultural needs in order to thrive.  With a little thought and preparation many plants can grow in a garden, and thrive.
