Fairy Bells and Solomon's Seals

Streptopus amplexifolus (Nodding Mandarin):  Z 4-9 N.A.Native.  Plant these in moist shade.  Great noding yellow flowers with red berries.  Plants can reach up to three feet tall.

Uvularia grandiflora:  Z3-8 N.A.Native.  This is perfect for the shaded garden.  The flowers are two inches long, yellow, and pendent.  The foliage is bluish green.  Over all the plant grows to about two feet tall.

Smilacina stellata (Starry Solomon's seal):  Z 7-8 N.A.Native This acts like a ground cover with its six to twelve inch tall stalks of alternating leaves.  Small starshaped blooms are formed in large clusters at the tip of the stalk

Smilacina racemosa (False Solomon's Seal):  Z 7-8 N.A.Native This leafy plant can rise to three feet with arching stalks and clusters of white flowers  at the tip.  Once it is done blooming the plant develops red berries in place of the old blooms.  These plants will form sizable clumps adding a nice dimension and background to any woodland garden.

Smilacina purpurea (False Solomon's Seal):  Z 7-8  This Smilacina is from China.  The blooms range from white to purple and are formed on  broad and deeply pleated alternate leaves up to six inches across.  Prefers moist, rich well drained woodland soil.

Streptopus obtusatus:  Z4-9 China.  This is a white blooming form of twisted stalk.
