Impatiens capensis (western touch-me-not): Z 7-8 N.A. Native The name of this usefull and harmless native impatens came from the explosive seed pods that pop open and disperse when touched. This species has orange and red spotted pendulant blooms that form on two to eight foot tall sturdy plants. The plants are fleshy with a white film over the stems. The main stalk is tall and straight with zigzagging branches at regular intervals. They prefer moist to wet conditions and work well as marginal aquatic plants. If they are suppeimented with water they work well planted in a dryer site. These will re-seed themselves and the original plant will die.
