Welcome

A farmers market plant sale

The name Keeping It Green Nursery, Hardy Orchids and Woodland Perennials was inspired by the idea to not only supply plant enthusiasts with garden worthy plants, but also to revitalize developed land.  The nursery is constantly researching underutilized or largely undiscovered plants to bring them into the garden setting.  Plants sold by the nursery are grown from seeds, spores or are divisions of nursery stock.

Keeping It Green Nursery  specializes in Hardy Orchids, Woodland Perennials, Hardy Ferns, and Hard to find North American Native plants.  The nursery carries many rare and hard to find collectors plants including species and hybrids of Bletilla, Calanthe, Cypripedium, Dactylorhiza, Epipactis, Orchis and many more.

Rare and unusual does not mean it is hard to grow.  Rare means difficult to propagate, or takes many years from seed,  new to cultivation, not common in the wild,  or simply passed over by those who don't know.

My philosophy has developed from growing up with an intimate relationship of my surroundings.  I have always hiked in the Pacific Northwest, on the west coast and into Canada.  I have a special interest in native plants and feel the need to supply gardeners with plants that can be found in a healthy ecosystem.  Today there is so much destruction of habitat it is good to put back some of what has been taken away. There is no way to stop growth, and the best thing to do is to encourage people to plant.      Plants are living organisms that are constantly changing.  If you pay attention and are attuned to your garden the plants will tell you what they need. It is good to understand the type of soil and the relationship the plant has with  water.  Plants have developed a certain way because of the environmental factors they have been  exposed to over the years.   Every plant has specific cultural needs in order to thrive.
