Mahonia aquilafolium: Z 5-9 N.A.Native. This growes up to ten feet tall with multi branches. When planted in full sun they stay more compact to about six feet tall. The color of the foliage can range from beright red to blue green. Blooms in January-Feb. Great winter color. The leaves are shorter and denser than many Mahonias.

Mahonia bealei: Z 6-10 Western China, Japan. This is a tall upright shrub with yellow, scented flowers in winter (Dec.-Feb.), followed by drooping blue berries. Plant in moist well drained soil, protect from hot summer sun. Once established can take some drought. These can reach ten feet tall and eight feet wide. Each leaflet is wide and bold, and gray green.

Mahonia lomariifolia: Z 6-10 China. This is a tall upright shrub with yellow, scented flowers in late winter followed by blue berries. Plant in moist well drained soil, protect form hot summer sun. These can reach ten feet tall and eight feet wide. Mature plants can gice a tropical effect in the garden. The leaflets are smaller and more numerous than M. bealei.
Mahonia nervosa: Z 5-9 N.A.Native. This Mahonia usually only grows to about a foot, forming a colony. It can reach to four feet tall in full shade. Colors can range from purple blue tops with light green-white unerside. Stunning yellow blooms in winter.
Mahonia repens: Z 5-9 N.A.Native. This is a ground cover mahonia to one foot tall. Great leaf color, yellow blooms.
