Attributes: Deciduous. Blooms spring to early summer.  Spikes of tubular red and yellow flowers, grass like foliage emerges late winter.  Bulb goes summer dormant.

Notes:  In the wild Dichelostemma ida-maia grown on grassy slopes and open woodlands.  WIll not need supplemental water and should be allowed to go mostly dry in summer.  Plant in a rock garden or wildflower meadow, or along a shady border.

Companion plants:  Arctostaphylos, Rhododendron occidentale, Lilium, Aquilegia, Penstemon, Triteleia, Allium, Camassia.
