Woodland Poppies

Stylophorum diphyllum (Wood Poppy): Z 6-10 N.A.Native. This occurs in shaded woodlands. Produces bright yellow poppie flowers in spring and summer. Deeply lobed foliage that remains interesting through the season.
Sanguinaria Canadensis'Multiplex' (Blood root): Z 7-8 N.A.Native This is a spring bloomer with pure white flowers. The leaves are scalloped with a green top and lighter underside. Eventually the underground rhizome will form a colony making an excellent ground cover. This is a rare double flowered form.

Meconopsis X sheldonii (Himalayan Blue Poppie): Z 3-8 Himalayas. This is a X between M. betonicifolia and M. grandis. The key to cultivation is moist, and rich, but gritty soil in part sun. The first year a plant is put into the garden the bloom spikes should be cut off to encourage plant off sets. Once an off set has bloomed they tend die off and be replaced by new growth.
Eomecon chionantha (Snow Poppy): Z 6-9 China. Pure white flowers, with golden yellow stamens, and are borne spring and summer. The foliage is on tall stems and has a scaloped edge and waxy apearence. Moist, rich shady position.


Hylomecon hylomeconoides: Z 5-8 Korea. Blooms yellow in mid spring. Plant in rich woodland soil in shade. Interesting pinnate foiage.
