Attributes: Deciduous.  Large shrub or small tree with multi - stemmed trunks.  Dark purple leaved selection that turns yellow in the fall.  Small pea like flowers are purple - pink in spring followed by brown - red pea pods.
Notes: Formerly known as Cercis reniformis.  Known to have more drought tolerance and darker buds and flowers than Cercis canadensis.
