Spiranthes sinensis ( Pink Ladies Tresses)

Family:  Orchidaceae
Zone: 6 - 9
Natural Range: Asia
Soil:  Moist, humus rich
Light:  Sun to part shade
Height: 12"
Bloom Time: July to August

Attributes:  Deciduous. Vivid magenta with white lip formed in a spiral as the name would suggest.

Notes:  Not a difficult species to grow but needs to be planted with other perennials that won't crowd them out, especially until established.  I prefer to grow them in a sandy peat and loam mix as one would with Epipactis.  However they are right at home in the garden with Dactylorhiza and many Cypripedium.

Companion plants:  Dactylorhiza, Meconopsis
