Attributes: Deciduous.  Shrub-like.  Spring blooming. Attractive ferny foliage. Variable colors seed grown plants.  Large white, pink, yellow or red flowers.  Single, ruffled petals with gold anthers.  Large black seeds late summer-fall.
Notes:  Requires little maintenance one established and can be quite drought tolerant.
Companion plants: Trillium,  Cypripedium, Cardamine, Erythronium, Epimedium, Paris, Smilacina.
