Attributes: Deciduous.  Thick, scaly crown.  Non creeping rhizome.  Sterile, once pinnate blades with 8 to 20 pairs of lobed pinnae.  Rounded tips.  Upright fertile fronds. 
Notes: According to some sources considered as Pentarhizidium orienatle. Rarely in commerce but because of its non spreading habit and smaller stature is a desirable fern for the collector.  Fronds grow more horizontal than other Matteuccia species.
