Pleione formosana 'Verdi' (Hardy Orchid)

Pleione formosana 'Verdi' (Hardy Orchid)

Family:  Orchidaceae
Zone: 7 - 9
Natural Range: Asia
Soil:  Average to moist, humus rich
Light: Part sun, open shade
Height: 6" tall
Bloom Time:  March to April

Attributes: Deciduous. Clumping.  Large pink flowers opening early in the spring with reddish purple spotting on the lip.  Foliage emerges after flower finishes.  Each year the previous pseudobulb is replaced by new growth.

Notes:  Mulch pseudobulbs with a good layer of leaves in October-November.  Also works well as a potted plant.  If potted tuck in a cool garage in the winter. Keep on the dry side but don't allow pseudobulb to shrivel up.
