Notes:  An easy species that is not often found in cultivation. Plant in an area sheltered from the hot sun, but not deep shade.  A favorite of mine in the garden for both foliage and flower.  Blooms later than P. japonica but earlier than P. obovata.

Attributes: Deciduous, large shrub or small tree that develops a patchwork of gray, green and creamy bark with age.  Burgundy fall foliage.
Notes:  Smaller and slower growing than other Parrotia.  A recently described and introduced species to western horticulture.  Originally grown by Roy Lancaster who received cuttings from Mikinori Ogisu of Japan.  Subsequently introduced and distributed in the US by Ozzie Johnson.

Attributes:  Deciduous, 4' - 7' tall.  Huge round leaves to 4' across.  Strange frilly winter blooms that resemble an ornamental cabbage.
Notes:  This form has huge foliage.  Give them plenty of room to grow.  They do well with lots of bright light, but shade them from the hottest part of the day.  They may wilt in a too hot of a spot but if their roots are kept moist they will bounce up once the day has cooled.

Notes: Grant Hadwin cut this revered tree down in a misguided protest against logging in Canada.  He wondered why people only seemed to care about one tree and not a forest.  A scramble to collect cuttings after the tree was cut down resulted in a few collections.  There was even a book about written about it, The Golden Spruce.  We have a couple of specimens that we have taken subsequent cuttings from.

Attributes: Deciduous.  New growth emerges chocolate to orange colored, becoming olive green and cinnamon.  Can sends up several flushes of new growth through the growing season.  Red flowers held below the foliage in spring.  Often re-blooming in the fall.
Notes: Can be a bit variable but these plants have a tall stature with leaves shaped more like delavayi but mostly a solid coloration rather than mottled.
